About IVAs & Bankruptcy
IVAs & Bankruptcy explains debt, IVAs, bankruptcy and keeping your home in plain English. It is for people in England and Wales who want to understand their options before they talk to anyone.
What this site is
A free information website. Each guide gives a short answer first, then the detail, then the official sources it came from. Guides are written in plain English, and we keep the official word next to the plain one so you recognise it in your own papers.
What it covers
- Debt options: IVAs, bankruptcy, Debt Relief Orders, Debt Management Plans and Breathing Space.
- Help with your home: mortgage arrears, eviction dates and the court form N244.
- Complaints and claims: the free routes first.
- Free help: independent debt and housing advice, always one click away.
What it does not do
- It does not give advice or tell you which debt solution to choose.
- It does not ask about your debts or income, and has no sign-up or contact form.
- It does not sell your details or pass them to anyone.
- It is not a law firm, a charity or a debt adviser, and it is not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
How we know it is right
Every fact links to the official page it came from and carries the date we checked it. Read how we work for the sources we rely on, how often they are checked and how we use AI. If you spot a mistake, email help@ivasandbankruptcy.co.uk and we will check it against the source.
How it is paid for
Right now, nobody pays us. Read how we make money for the rules we keep if that changes, and how we compare companies for how the company lists are made.
Who runs it
