How we work
We want you to be able to trust what you read here, and to check it for yourself.
Where our facts come from
We use official sources first. That means GOV.UK, the courts, the Insolvency Service and the law itself. We also link to free advice charities. Every fee, limit or form we mention links to the place we found it.
Checked dates
Each fact shows the date we last checked it, for example “Checked on 24 October 2026”. Fees and forms change, so we keep all of them in one place and check them again regularly.
What we are, and what we are not
We are an information website. We are not a law firm, a charity or a debt adviser. We explain how things work. We do not tell you which debt solution to choose. For advice about your own situation, talk to a free, independent adviser.
We are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and do not give debt advice.
Our guides are not reviewed by a solicitor or a debt adviser at the moment. We would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.
How we use AI
We use AI tools to help us research, write and build this site. AI can make mistakes, so every fact must link to an official or trusted source, with the date we checked it. We do not use AI to give you personal advice, and there is no chatbot on this site.
Mistakes and corrections
If something looks wrong, please tell us. Use the “Something wrong on this page?” link at the bottom of any page, or email help@ivasandbankruptcy.co.uk. We will check it against the source and fix it if we got it wrong.
Using optional videos
Our optional video features use YouTube API Services. By using the YouTube player, you agree to be bound by YouTube’s Terms of Service. Each video belongs to its named publisher. Videos are general information and do not assess your circumstances. Written help remains available without YouTube.
